Happy Thanksgiving

Hopefully you are with family, and it only takes a look around the table to realize how much we have to be thankful for.

Buying at Wholesale Prices

Over the years, the term "wholesale distributor" has become murky, widely misused, and misunderstood...especially in the appliance business. As New England's largest wholesale appliance distributor, Blodgett buys appliances by the truckload, and sells them to retail dealers for resale to consumers. Two factoids: first, because of this role we have the largest appliance inventory of anyone in Vermont; second, we are the only true appliance wholesaler in the state. So, when we decide to sell appliances to the public, consumers have a chance to buy appliances for at, or even below the prices we charge to dealers. Because our role is wholesale distribution, we normally do NOT sell directly to consumers, and have not done so for more than 10 years. Right now, however, we have an accumulation of closeouts, overstocks, and scratch and dent appliances and high definition TV's that we need to sell. As a result, this week, through Sunday, consumers have a chance to pay true wholesale prices on a variety of merchandise. Look for the link on Wholesale Direct on our website to see more information!

Circuit City goes Bankrupt

Yet another big box retailer has filed for Chapter 11, and for CC this is just another chapter in their downward spiral. While I feel sorry for the employees who will ultimately be laid off, I more regret the loss of thousands of independent appliance retailers who went out of business because of the predatory pricing practices of the big box stores. Pricing practices which were always unsustainable, it just took until now to put CC down.

What's Important at Blodgett

It was a pleasure last week to received a letter from a customer complimenting us on the quality of the people in our Williston branch, and thanking us for all they do for our customers. We absolutely believe in the qualified professionals who make up the Blodgett family, and it's great to have that reaffirmed by our customers.

The Election

One of the things I most admire about the American people is the great sense of hope we have going into every election, hope for a better future, hope for a solution to our problems, and hope that the new administration will do what they've promised us. This election was a dramatic expression of that hope, and we now await what President-elect Obama can accomplish. I'm not the only one to be reminded of the similar emotions we felt when JFK was elected, a similar changing of the guard from one generation to another. Good luck to our new President...and all of us.
